Welcome to Royo.
Between the west and east, there is a stretch of painted desert that fills you with a sense of openness. Across this landscape, the weather is constantly changing- sun in the morning, monsoon in the afternoon - an unexpected, dynamic dance. This life is distinctly unique to the Southwest, six states respectively: California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and most notably to us, New Mexico.
You might go to Oregon to run in the footsteps of legendary pros or Boston to experience the deep history of the marathon, but for those of us who venture towards the in-between, to a life a little unknown - we have a western state of mind and a dusty sense of being.
So, what does this feel like? Imagine you're somewhere on a trail or perfect dirt road. Are your eyes closed? Close them.
The air is dry. It smells like creosote rains, and you can see for miles. You're running fast, and you can go forever because there is an unhindered state of lightness. Droplets come down and carve paths in the land - taking on new forms of their own, an arroyo of fast-flowing water. A channel of energy.
Commonplace phenomenons start with unlikely ingredients: a mixture of dry heat, moisture, and a shift in the wind- the perfect storm or the right season. Sometimes, these channels create lasting indents, and on rare occasions, they create canyons.
We’ve always wanted to create something special with the intention of honoring our Southwest home and our deep belief that running is a beating piece of this community, one that celebrates tradition but believes in reinvention that builds a legacy. Arroyos are our physical representation and a reminder that even in the harshest landscapes, we can seize the moment and leave a mark.
Running is our conduit, and this is Royo. Invest in the future with us.
